VLC 3.0 slow start

Postby akramar » 11 Feb 2018 19:07

When starting a file in Widows (double click in explorer) the program needs 5-10 seconds to start. Used to be 1-2 seconds with old version. My laptop is low end but still. Now I'm back to old version and everything is OK.

I also experience a lag (not that long, though, but it takes a sec before it starts playing). If I drag and drop the file there is no lag.

As far as I can measure, most of the start-up time of VLC stems from Qt. Nothing VLC developers can do about, while Qt developers do not read this forum.

The lag I describe is when the file is opened in an existing instance of vlc.

My lag is gone in 3.0.1. So lag and the mysterious exit-crash have been fixed.
