VLC Media Player 3.0 - Crashes with DVDs

Postby thenning » 19 Feb 2018 21:39

I installed version 3.0 and tested a DVD. The program completely crashed. I tried several times and it kept crashing. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, and it still crashed with the DVD.

I tested it on another machine running v3.0 and it crashed again. I downgraded to 2.2.8 on the first machine and the DVD worked fine after that. I submitted the crash reports to VLC but wanted to let you all know, at least for me, it was crashing. MP4s appear to be playing fine though.

I tried a couple of DVDs. Specifically Mr. Peabody and Ruby Bridges. Neither would play and crashed VLC.

Could you try to configure VLC to save your logs to a file before it crashes?

We see this crash reported quite a bit, but haven't managed to reproduce it, so we really need your help tracking it down!!

My newly installed VLC Media Player 3.0.0 does not exactly crash but playing a tested DVD (OK in other machines) every 8-10 minutes screen loses vision (audio continues) and the Windows Vista logo appears moving around the screen, now other black!! Does anyone have a solution for this glitch?
Cheers,
CapnDave

That looks like your screensaver turning on, no? In which case, it's already fixed (and I'd appreciate if you could test this nightly build to confirm it! https://nightlies.videolan.org/build/wi ... 0221-0302/)

I am not the OP, but I just loaded v3.0.0 on a laptop running Windows 10 Pro 32-bit 1709.
VLC crashed with Don Juan DeMarco which was the DVD I had lying around.
Downloaded and installed v2.2.8, and the DVD plays fine.

You may have figured out by now or will soon that VLC is garbage.
