VLC 3.0.0: "VLC quit unexpectedly." after Cmd+Q

I'm on macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

Start VLC. File menu, Open File, navigate to an MKV file shared on my NAS, click the Open button, let the video play for a few seconds, press the pause button. Here I decide to quit VLC, so I press Cmd+Q. Every time I do that, I get the message "VLC quit unexpectedly." No, it wasn't unexpected. I quit the app intentionally. The message doesn't appear if I press Stop while the video is playing instead of Pause.
