VLC 3.0.0 on ATV4K - Obvious issues

Postby Rheinlaender » 10 Feb 2018 09:30

Hello,
I am running the latest version of VLC (3.0.0) on an Apple TV 4K (with tvOS ver. 11.2.5). Unfortunately there are some obvious issues:

- When hitting "pause" on the ATV remote during playback, the video pauses. However I am not able to resume playback when hitting "play" again. It just doesn't work.
- Auto framerate switching is not supported any more, even though it is enabled in the ATV's settings. I am certain that it has worked before with VLC (2.9.x).

Can anyone confirm these issues?

Regards

Rheinlaender

ATV4 here

I can confirm "resuming the video with play button not working" issue. Only way to resume the video is to use scroll back and forth and press the menu button. Then it will resume.

Also external subtitles downloaded trough Opensubtitles are not working - they seem not to be downloaded at all.

At this point the app is unusable on ATV

Confirmed here too, after Apple TV updated VLC to 3.0.0
Thanks @poltergeistcro for that fidily workaround on the remote to get intended use back! Still, this is a real drag :-( I'm using the remote app with ATV4.

I found a bugtracker report, specifically this bug is in comment3. Seems like some dev eyes are on it:

Having the same issue. Only way to get playing again is to scroll a bit back and fourth and play.

Also, I'm finding it much more difficult to bring up the menu while watching something. Want to turn off subtitles? Almost impossible to get the menu to show.

I've been using the Apple TV running VLC for almost two years and it's been remarkably stable. Until I decided to run the OS and VLC update on Monday.
Now VLC crashes each night. We can work around the "shuttle to start playing again" issue. But dumping back to the home screen in the overnight is killing me.

Is there a way of sideloading an older version of VLC? We were running 1.0.7 on TV OS 9 something.

See the bugtracker report I linked to above. Good news that they're working on it and hope to get a fix in an upcoming release.

I have a 4th gen Apple TV and i'm experiencing the same issue. Driving my wife nuts.
