No external subtitles after 2.8.8.

After 2.8.8 none of my .srt subtitles are working and all of them worked before the upgrade to the latest release. I have tried a reinstall without any luck. iOS 11.2.5, iPhone 8.

I've tried both .avi and .mkv files and the external subs are not showing on either of them.

I created a ticket and we look into what caused this regression and will try to fix it as soon as possible!
@voriad we're ~2 engineers working on iOS, tvOS and VLCKit, including an Intern. We test manually at the moment and miss things We're human after all.
A Testsuite for VLCKit is planned to catch regressions but it will be a while.

The VLC on my iPad also is not showing the subtitles, just a thin bar in place of them.

That´s clear it is a bug.

Also just upgraded to the latest VLC on 2 different iPads and confirm all subs cannot be displayed on mkv’s that contain them and worked fine up to today, as well as external srt.

I don't think the problem is limited to external subtitles. I had an mkv+srt combination that I combined into an mp4 with embedded subtitle track. I didn't get subtitles for that either.

I checked trac and found defect 19442, which is tagged to milestone iOS 3.0. Given the typical pace of releases, this is concerning. The application is useless to me with this defect. Is this being tracked under any other ticket? If there's any way to make sure there is a complete defect report or vote for priority, I'd like to know about it.

The same for me.

As for example :
.MKV movie, with both integrated sub tracks and with extra subtitle SameNameAsMovie-file (two methods then).

Both methods work on PC and classical VLC software. But none of the twos work on VLC for iOS.
Precision for developpers : VLC/iOS reckognizes the extra sub track file (new sub track proposition while playing movie), but can't display the subs when selected.

Software : Both VLC/iOS and iOS up to date on 2018-01-29 at night. Hardware : iPad Pro 2017 10,5' and iPhone 8.

Same issue here but with mkv files with included subtitles. However the subtitles work fine with with VLC on my MBP.
Hardware: iPhone 6s Plus
Software: iOS 11.2.5 and VLC up to date
