Asked by work do put VLC on all comps, ran into a problem.

Hello everyone

To preface this, I currently live in china, the land of pirated windows XP and no antivirus. My boss asked me to clean up about 20 computers and put AV + VLC on all comps to get rid of all the terrible bloated programs that are in use.

So, I am testing everything on one of the computers and came across an issue. I cant seem to get VLC to play ,kux format. Here in china, we use a chinese version of youtube called youku and youku lets you freely download videos from their site, but it is in the nonstandard format mentioned above.

If someone could help me out, I'd be greatly appreciated. A link to another forum post where the problem has been solved or a link to some codecs or w/e, all would be great.

Can you try with VLC 3.0 Release Candidate ? https://nightlies.videolan.org/

There is ~2 years of work compared to VLC 2.2 you probably downloaded. There's a good chance it can read your .kux files (Since ffmpeg can).

If not, please provide a sample file. Thanks.

What should I put in the trac ticket section? Just a random number and keep a track on it?

edit: I put a basic tracking number there as I didnt have one, the tracker is 13756910356

for future reference, that's in case you created a ticket on https://trac.videolan.org/vlc . It helps us keeping track of which samples correspond to which issue.

Actually, it would help if you created such a ticket!

Would this be considered a bug? the link you posted was for bugs, nevertheless ill make a report there. As of now though, it is about 11PM here in China and i have work tomorrow morning. I will file a support ticket then, but feel free to respond if you know of a fix. I have about 20 computers that need this and if it works, it'll become about 200. (I work in a school. I am a math/English teacher that also does most of the IT work for the school... but im not IT. praise google and my VPN.)

Just tried filling out in and it kept saying my login information was wrong. I'm talking it that I need to create a new account for the tracker section. I will do this on my break.

Can you upload a sample file somewhere ? I tried getting one but it doesn't work not knowing chinese I have no idea why.
