Is VLC Guilty?

Hi Everyone,

Hope I don't upset too many if I point the finger of suspicion at VLC.

I am editing a few files in Serif MoviePlus X6 and, due to that programmes limitations, I use VLC as a fast playback viewing machine.

Unfortunately, each time I load VLC, within a shortish period of time the previewing in Serif MP freezes - although I can still use some of the programme's other functions. (Save etc.,)

I have just installed the 64 bit version of VLC (thinking it might be the limitation/conflict of 32 bit handling by MS) but, if anything, the MP freezing is more instantaneous than before.

It takes a closing of both VLC and MP, followed by a restart of MP, for work to resume, but this is relatively short-lived as soon as I restart VLC.

Can anyone help please?

It's hard to say without logs, but even with those, we don't know what MP does that could conflict with VLC.

My best guess would be that both are trying to either use hardware video decoding, or maybe one needs access to the sound card in exclusive mode (assuming you're using macOS, not sure there is such a mode there)

You could try to test a VLC 3.0 Release Candidate, maybe something that was fixed on VLC side will make the 2 software play nicer with each other
