VLC not launching on Apple TV 4k

I just got Apple TV 4k and VLC doesn't work.
It worked fine on Apple TV 4th Gen.
I installed VLC on Apple TV 4k, the VLC icon shows up just fine, once I launch VLC, it starts opening and closes right away.
I tried reinstalling VLC, restoring Apple TV to factory defaults but no luck.
Did anyone experience the same issue or VLC simply isn't compatible with Apple TV 4K ?

I have three Apple TV 4th gen.
All of my VLC is acting same.
VLC will not launching.
Open and close immediate
It was working till last night.
Reboot apple TV, check firmware, delete the VLC app and reinstalled.
Any advise?

Same here since the Apple TV OS was updated last time. VLC just crashes on startup.
I have deleted VLC and restarted Apple TV and then reinstalled VLC but without any luck!

Apple tvOS 11.1.
Model A1625 (if it matters).

Edit: Sorry misread the topic, I DO NOT have an Apple TV 4k, just the regular Apple TV 4th gen. But still the same problem

on Apple TV 4k 2017 with TOS 11.2 and new installation the same problem

But when I first startet the installation and put VLC Mobile App on ATV, it works. After Update VLC (automatic update), the app crashed since that time

I actually went to the Apple Store and their sale associates confirmed that already quite a few people we're coming in to the store regarding the same VLC problem when the app stoped working.
Sounds like VLC guys need to fix the app...

Same situation, on Apple TV4k VLC app crashes at start since today.
The strange part is that at the beginning everything seemed to work fine, ending in a mess up in a few minutes.
I don't know how do applications updates work, if it's a silent job in background or something else.

Solution:
- switch off the NAS

Start VLC-App

On my network, I use a QNAP NAS with DLNA and Twonky-Server.
If I switch off my NAS, the VLC-App run without any problems ...

So, why have NAS an VLC a problem? Problem Ports?

I, too, can't open VLC on my ATVs, unless I disconnect the ATV from the network. Then it will stay running, but not very functional. As soon as I reconnect the network, VLC crashes. Much sadness, as this problem has apparently existing for more than a month and through at least two updates.

the same here, as soon as ATV gets disconnected from the network, VLC starts just fine.
I also tried to disable DLNA on my NAS and keep the ATV on the network, but VLC still crashing...very disappointing...

Just bought Apple TV 4k. Experienced exactly the same situation. Tried literally everything. I hope soon this problem is solved... but as i can see it continues already long.

Have the same problem. It is definitely something to do with SMB sharing. If you turn off Microsoft Networking on the QNAP NAS VLC will then launch no problems on Apple TV and Apple TV 4K BUT as others have pointed out what's the point of that???
I also use PlayerXtreme Pro on Apple TV and it works without any problems with the QNAP SMB turned on.
Definitely something up with VLC's coding

The next update will include a fix for this issue. We weren't able to reproduce it for a while but have a solution for the issue now!
