VCL not recording

Hi there all.
I'm new to using VCL, so please bare with me. My problem is I have tried several ways of recording some streaming video from You tube without luck. I have followed lots of do this and do that help links on the net, but after doing all that they have said, i'm no further forward. My VCl is 2.2.6 and on my other computer it's 2.2.1 I believe. I've followed the instructions to go to the media tab, and clicked on convert/save . then copied the URL into the Web slot in the VCL. made sure the destination file box has got the .mp4 title ending. also made sure the show playback is ticked. when I press to play the VCL does nothing, although there is made a file on my desktop, there is no download saved there. Am I being fooled into believing that I can download from the Tube, when it's not possible. Otherwise, am I really not using the VCL properly ?.. Any help will be gladly received.

Recording and transcoding are somehow broken in recent builds, this is a known issue awaiting for a fix.
Meanwhile you should use an older version (v2.0.8 or 2.1.5) or a v3.0.0 nightly build.
