Slow loading of large MKV files from NAS

Hi,

I have version 2.2.6 of VLC.
I have several large (15gb >) MKV files that when opened with VLC version take around 30+ seconds to load. In this thread https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 3&start=40
it is mentioned to install 2.2.1. But I am using a higher version and that doesn't help. I also tried to install the night build version 3. But same behavior.

Is this normal behavior?

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [​code]and[​/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

OS Windows 10 Pro x64 US (1709)
VLC 2.2.6

I also tried another pc. Same issue. When I copy file to local hdd vlc runs quick <2sec

I have exactly the same problems, Streaming from Synology 716+
More detail, Most of mkv files will face this problem but there are also some of them that don't have the problem as well. The file size might not matter but I have only the files that are BrRip and .mkv So I don't know for sure. Lastly, I can safely say that its not the problem of the NAS becasue the same file is opened by window media players and the default program that come with win10 just fast and fine.
I will attach messages from 2 files, the one that have problem and the one that doesn't.

Same problem playing some MKVs from my NAS. Have Windows 10 x64 1709 with 1gbit fiber link to my Synology. All movies play normaly with other players never had problems with VLC in the past worked fine but now huge delay before starting to play sometimes up to 1 minute after that all works just fine. Tested versions 2.2.6, 2.2.4, 2.2.3 all same result so i am guessing it's maybe the latest Windows 10 1709 or Synology DSM that i happen to install since i noticed this lag with VLC.

Does it help if you untick the "Preload MKV files in the same directory" option ?

Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show Settings = ALL) -> Input/Codecs -> Demuxers -> Matroska
The option is on the right panel. Untick it then save, exit and restart VLC.

I have the same problem now on my Mac playing MKV files from my DS214+. It was not slow like this until very recently.
