Repeated file not found loop

Postby Sten » 25 Oct 2017 21:23

I have problems on OSX/MacOS since i use VLC, for over ten years now.
When i rename or move files on harddrive which are in the playlist, VLC blames me not finding them anymore.
okay that's normal you could say. But when i do the same on iTunes, it finds renamed or moved files.

Second is, it complains about missing files endlessly in a loop when the playlist is repeat all.
Come on VLC, how high is the chance to find the files if nothing changes, except for wasting cpu time and annoying me!

Is it possible to fix at least the infinite missing file info?

Yes, it is normal that renamed files are not found anymore. VLC cannot know what the new file is, there is not platform-independent way to do that.

For the second issue, it might look weird to some users, other users actually use that behaviour. They are lots ot items (e.g. internet streams) which can become available again later on.

Might be possible that this loop bug will be exploited.
For me it will stay a bug, because it uses 80% CPU of my DualCore.
And that's not normal! Same for the log window.

What about distinguishing between sources?
An internet link is not the same like a local file.
Internet link polling should be a setting, local files should not be polled for being there when moved.

By the way how is iTunes doing it's magic. It knows where you moved the file. Is it a filesystem feature?

Also open a non-working network link and also get an infinite loop, 100% cpu and VLC needs to be killed, e.g.

rtsp://10.0.1.106:554/onvif1
