VLC 2.8.1 (281.1)

On iPad Air with iOS 10.3.3 no crashes occurs.

Same Local Network issue as some others have mentioned.

It did it on VLC 2.8.0 and it still does it to me on VLC 2.8.1 (281.1)

Happens on both iPhone 6s and newest 2017 iPad, both are running iOS 10.3.3

I tap Local network it briefly displays the network browser then app crashes.

Thanks

SAME problem!
I’m so frustrated because I’m on the iOS 11 beta program and since my iPad automatically updates its apps. It updated to 2.8.1. The 2.8.0 or keep just fine for me on the beta program but the 2.8.1 is completely useless because it won’t let me fast forward to the middle of the video. It just stops playing the video whenever I try to skip forward through any part of the video.

Does anyone have the ipa file for god 2.8.0. I desperately need it to continue my work but I can’t find it  and the 2.7.8. Is not compatible with the beta system. I don’t want to downgrade back to iOS 10 just because of this trash.

The previous VLC 2.8.0.ipa file? I have it. I'll PM you.

Still absolutely useless for me. Can't play files over an ftp share on my own LAN (Tried hw decode both on and off just to be sure)

Back to 2.7.8 again. Good to see they're on top of the issues...

Hello,

Sorry for being so unresponsive on the forum.

A quick status update on what we will address in the 2.8.2 update which will be submitted for review today:
  • Fixes an unexpected playback termination of H.264 content after a few minutes
  • Fixes playback of 10bit H.264 content
  • Fixes a crash when discovering UPnP devices on the local network
  • Restored playback on iOS 7
  • Dropbox support is no longer an option on iOS 7 and iOS 8
  • General stability improvements and bug fixes
What will not make it in this update because it requires more detailed changes?
  • FTP playback
  • RTMP playback
Regarding RTMP, if you have a publicly accessible test stream for me, you would be very welcome to share it with me using a PM.

Let me know if you have further important issues that need to be addressed with high priority, notably regressions from 2.7.8.

Another iOS 7.1.2 (iphone 5s) user here, who cannot play mp4/mkv/mp3 on app or streaming in 2.8.x so far, but glad to see a fix is underway soon. This was the first time I seriously considered alternatives to VLC, and I did not like what I found out there, so thankful to not have to switch!

Videos do indeed play again with 2.8.2, but when I switch to landscape mode the app instantly quits if a video is playing or starts to play.At first I thought it might be that I play videos at 1.5x, or that hardware decoding is on, but changing both did not resolve the issue. Needless to say this is not a fix that works for me, hopefully the issue will be addressed soon.

iOS 7, iphone 5s.

Hi,

I have an iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 and VLC 2.8.2 (282.1) still crashes back to the home page when I try and run a movie using VLC. Has anyone got a solution? Both having the iPad turned as landscape and portrait still crashes out, removing VLC and reinstalling did not help. Will this be fixed in a future version? Hesitant to update iOS to later version as iPad tends to run like a dog.

Thanks all.

Hi,

I have an iphone 7 with iOS 11, and VLC 2.8.4.

VLC crashes randomly when I play local videos. Sometimes, I watch video for 20 minutes and all is fine, and sometimes it crashes after only a few minutes.

Theses troubles occurred since I upgraded my iphone to ios 11, the different versions of VLC have not corrected.

I encountered other problem: random play. When it's activated, if I manually switch to the next video, it works. On the other hand, if a video ends, the random mode no longer works.

Is there an update on the FTP playback. I am using iPad Mini 2 with iOS 11.2.2. When I try to play any video from FTP location, vlc app crashes. Kindly let me know. Thanks.

VLC on Apple TV has a major problem working with QNAP NAS (Maybe others) - IF you turn off the NAS VLC will launch, if you disable Microsoft Networking on the NAS, VLC will launch. Difintely something wrong with how they handle SMB - PlayerXtreme Pro works without a problem with the QNAP NAS turn on and with Microsoft Networking also on
