Sounds is doubtfully mute both MKV and MP3

Postby chatterbox » 02 Oct 2017 08:19

I have been using VLC for Windows, downloaded from Windows Store. Current installed version is 2.5.5.0, the latest one.

Formerly, I could play without any problem.
Now there is no sound coming out when playing everything; MKV, mp3, WAV whereas I can play with K-Lite Media Player, iTunes or another software.

I have checked the Sound Mixer in the System Tray and there is no tab for VLC program. I have tried uninstall and reinstall the VLC and the problems still persists.

The system is Windows 10 on Surface Pro4.

Could anyone give me suggestions?

Hi. Couple questions for you:
- Was it working for you with previous versions on the same system?
- Have you tried using headphones?
- Have you tried playing the same files with the classic VLC app (not Windows Store)?
- Can you share one of your files please?

Cheers.

1. Yes, it was working for me.
2. I just tried and it is working with headphones.
3. I just installed the classic VLC and it is working.
I like the Windows Store version since it supports touch gestures with my Surface but it is not working right now.
I couldn't find any Windows settings that indicates any Disable options for a specific software.

Thanks for your fast support!

Hmm I don't see why it should not work with your speakers if it works with your headphones...

Have tried changing the volume (both in the app and in Windows)?
Have you tried disabling your speakers and enabling them again (Tap Windows key -> search for "Sound" -> Right click on your speakers -> Disable/Enable).

I have also tried those two options. Looks like I have to switch to PC version. Thanks anyway, mfkl!!
