Steampunk icon for VLC

Postby yereverluvinuncleber » 02 Sep 2012 01:28

I have created a steampunk icon for VLC.

See it here:

Image

Hope you like it and find it useful, you can download it here:

http://rocketdock.com/addon/icons/42937

It was designed to be used with rocketdock or similar so it is PNG. Resize it as you wish. I will be creating some .ICO and .ICNS files in the near future.

I'm glad you like it, created with photoshop by my fair hands. There are plenty more here, all different types: http://rocketdock.com/user/107284/addons/popular

Do me a favour, log in and vote for any you like, it really helps!

I created another initially for Itunes but you can use it for VLC if you wish, it is up to you.

You can get it here:

Question for anyone who is reading this thread. Is it possible to skin VLC? If I were to create a Steampunk front end for VLC using photoshop, does VLC have the capability to skin certain elements?

This is an example of one of my skins, this time to a clock/alarm function on windows/Macs.

Of course, you can even use the skin editor to do that.

I use photoshop by default as I know it pretty well. Is there a guide for skinning VLC? Where would I start?

Is there a guide to assist me? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I never quite got around to creating a skin for VLC but my intention is still to do so given time.

I created two designs for a media player, the first of which actually acquired some usage as a media player using the yahoo widget engine, someone might want to take it further so I may release it as a kit of parts.Image

This is it in operation on my desktop. No playlists, no extras, just a minimal player in steampunk fashion that can be resized as you require.

The other design that was never quite used was this:

OK, it isn't a VLC skin but instead this is a kit of parts... that can be assembled to create a Steampunk media player widget/app or program.

Image

It could be used on Windows, Linux, Android, Os/X or IOS to create an app, Xwidget, yahoo widget, rainmeter skin, samurize widget, vlc or winamp skin or used to create any form of graphical interface you choose. The media player could suit desktop or mobile applications. You could create an app or simply use the components in your own graphical creation.

This kit will contain all the separate images I use to create one of my widgets plus a XML file to describe the contents position and function. Except for the XML there is no code within the package just the images.

All you need to do is to add your own code, script, markup language, whatever logic method you prefer to animate the device. I already have some javascript to make this player come alive - if you want this javascript to provide more glue to the parts then that can be provided too, you only need to ask - PM me here at DA.

CREDIT - You may use any of my own images in your own creations but commercially only with my permission. In all other non-commercial cases I require a prominent credit to the original artist(s) using their/my real name or DA pseudonym and a link to their/my sites. A link to this page using my DeviantArt name on any descriptions would be sufficient.

Sorry to raise this old thread.

I managed to complete my own media player using javascript and two widget engines. The same javascript works in each engine.

I am now working on my own steampunk skin for VLC

Glad you like it. Thanks for commenting.

Still evolving.

Image

Mostly complete as a concept.

I am working on separating the various components to make the left, right, top background areas to correspond to the locations within VLC.

Added a track position indicator
Widened the whole skin
Added some more mechanism at the bottom
