Using a general configuration manager, especially for keysettings

Postby eerkatoka » 02 Jul 2017 10:48

There should be a software that can be used to configure at least part of any software, with product-specific definition files that tell how to edit config files for VLC and others. This especially for key bindings. Is there? This could be meant to be common for Qt software.

Using that kind of software would be easier than editing configuration files with a text editor but have some extra steps compared to build-in configurators like VLC has.

VLC could need a button for reloading the configuration file from disk or there has to be some inter-process communication.

This is not really the place the rant about missing Qt features. Qt developers are not reading these fora.

So are you confirming that there is no such software for Qt or software in general, from Qt developers or anyone(regardless of them being associated or not with Qt )? Lots of github projects out there. On what category would that belong?

You could at least say that such software would be nice and you wish it were done, even as VLC is not near main reason for such software because VLC has it's embedded configuration editor. Other software that currently can be configured only by editing configuration files in a text editor is reason enough to make such software and it would work with VLC if the VLC configuration files have a stable format, which I assume they have.

This is not about missing features of Qt or operating systems, but asking if such feature exists and discussing the idea and the only feature request for VLC devs is for a VLC specific definition file that such software can use.

I don't know; I am not a Qt expert. VLC uses its own settings for key presses anyway, as they need to work outside the Qt interface.
