Unable/unsure how to record

Hi there,

I use VLC mainly for watching videos but a friend directed me to its record option that I could use for recording snippets of MKV videod that I would otherwise trim in Quicktime if that were an option (for mp4s etc)

However, there is only a record check button, a stop button, and no settings as to where it goes, the frames per second, etc. l'm on 2.2.4 Weatherwax, and open capture device only mentions streaming.

Is there anyone out there that can help? Thanks heaps.

The recorded file is stored in the Movies folder in the end. All the other setting are selected automatically as far as I know.

On linux ubuntu the record button doesnt work, i can't trim videos. By the way it's not easy to see if record is ON with the design of the button. Thanks.
