Downloading Youtube Videos - File Type problem,

I just started with VLC a couple of days ago and can't express how happy I am with the program. Though I wish there was more of an authoritative source documentation method, I find it highly intuitive.

However, when I download a Youtube VIdeo, the file type that is saved is inconsistent. Sometimes it saves as an MP4, which is what I want. Sometimes it simply says "File" as a file type. The video still plays so this question is more about that fact I am new to using various types of video files and want to learn more about it. Here is my methodology and the website I got it from:

Find a video on YouTube—like this one—and copy the URL from the address bar.

In VLC, head to Media > Open Network Stream.

Paste the YouTube link in the box and click Play.

Under Tools, click Codec Information.

In the box that says Location, right-click the block of text and click Select All. Copy this text to your clipboard.

Go back to your browser and paste the link in the address bar. This will open the source file directly on YouTube's servers.

Right-click the video as it plays and select Save Video As.[/list]

Well you haven't gotten an answer yet so I will give you my opinion. The only thing I use VLC for right now is just to play videos that I already have downloaded. To download videos from you tube or even sites that have secerity to prevent people from downloading I use applian media catcher. Use a torrent downloader to download this program. Works great.

I am having an issue with downloading a YouTube Video. I like that I can download YouTube videos, but this one has puzzled me. Please check my posting on Feb 19th. Thank you.
