VLC 3.0 Icon

Postby Doney » 25 Nov 2016 19:25

Hi there,

Congrats on the upcoming VLC 3.0 release!

A while ago I created a custom icon that I use for VLC which fits perfectly with the flat-style icon design used since OS X Yosemite. It looks fantastic in the Dock on macOS, but I imagine it would look great on Windows etc. as well. So I'd like to contribute the icon for the next version if you are interested in adopting it :)

Here's what it looks like:

I have attached a .zip containing the original Sketch file, an Apple .icns file, a Windows .ico file, and a .iconsproj file which is used by Icon Slate to generate the icon files.

If interested I would also be willing to take a look at a modern fresh new design for the VLC website.

Let me know what you think.

Kind regards,

That's cool, but I also hope that they should released that also both on Windows and Android as well (on Android, a bit modify it's texture, lighting, tint and shadows to fit Material Design, but it's already okay) So we can achieve product icon consistency. As well on VLC's website. I also hope that this gets to all nooks and crannies of every bit of legacy VLC app, help page (or just delete it and lets have an online documentation website instead), settings and more. Also this is very appropriate as product icon on Windows as the design language of the new icon is much more aligned to the Windows shell icons. I hate this only shipped on Mac. Hope also this will ship on iOS and Apple TV and Android TV (icon banner) as well
