VLC remote issue (http host)

Postby s.gilroy » 09 Sep 2009 13:10

Hi,

i have recently purchased VLC remote from iTunes and have it installed correctly as an app on my iPhone with the intention of using it to remote control VLC player on my PC.

i am running Windows Vista Home on a 32 bit system and have the latest version of VLC Player installed on it (1.0.1)

for 2 days now i have been trying to secure the correct connection on my wireless home network but am unable to do so due to the same error everytime.

the app will recognise my PC on the network and display on my iPhone screen my PC name and it has a picture of a cone and a red cross next to it.

i am told this is because it recognises that i have VLC installed and running on my PC, but my PC will not allow my iPhone to have access to it.

i have checked my firewall which has VLC listed in the exceptions. i have checked that the remote console is running on the server via http://localhost:8080.

the service is supposed to connect to 192.168.1.3 as an ip address but whenever i type https://192.168.1.3:8080 into the safari browser on my iphone i am told 403 Forbidden.

i then have gone into the program files for VideoLAN on my C drive and checked that the .host file is formatted correctly, which it is. i have tried the VLC connection utility that is offered with the remote software and i have been through about a dozen emails with the author of the remote software who has given up on me.

can anybody suggest which the issue might be and how to get around it?

Hi!

I have a very similar problem... Did you fix it?
The only difference is that I get this error:
Access Error: 404 -- Not Found
I have tried in linux and MacOS and it worked perfectly. I've also disabled the firewall in Windows 7.

Thank you!
