I have done some reading about this issue and it seems common that the compile fails. I am very new to Linux Gentoo and would appreciate any help in regards to gettign this going as it is the only thing that seems to fail .
Any ideas what this is from??

EDIT:

http://developers.videolan.org/vlc/nix-compile.html

I am trying this right now... so well see if this works. :)

./configure --enable-x11 --enable-xvideo --disable-gtk --enable-sdl --enable-ffmpeg --with-ffmpeg-mp3lame --enable-mad --enable-libdvbpsi --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-libmpeg2 --enable-dvdnav --enable-faad --enable-vorbis --enable-ogg --enable-theora --enable-faac --enable-mkv --enable-freetype --enable-fribidi --enable-speex --enable-flac --enable-livedotcom --with-livedotcom-tree=/usr/lib/live --enable-caca --enable-skins --enable-skins2 --enable-alsa --disable-kde --disable-qt --enable-wxwindows --enable-ncurses --enable-release

being what i did... and recieved the following error...

EDIT:

Checking for suffix of executables... configure: error: cannot compute suffix of executables: cannot compile and link.

ARRRG any ideas?
