VLC won't play any dvd (win 10)

I have been looking for a solution for this for a while and cannot find one so i wanted to see if anyone here could help.

I have an acer laptop that is ex display and seems to have had a few weird problems so this one is no surprise but still annoying.

Nothing appears on screen when i try to play a dvd through the player or by opening dvd and playing the VIDEO_ts and AUDIO_ts. I have tried looking through the message log and googling errors with no luck since i am not sure which one is causing the problem. I have tried using 2.2.0 (currently installed) and 2.2.2.

edit: i forgot to mention it has no trouble playing any media file i have on the laptop

This suggest read error.
Did you check whether your dvd or dvd drive is not bad?

I am pretty sure it is not the dvd since i have tried multiple with no luck which have worked fine on other laptops.
It has managed to read cds that have video files stored on them with no problem. It is possible that it is a fault with the laptop though since it has never been able to play dvds. When i had 2.2.2 installed and the skip to dvd menu enabled it would show the dvd title menu but crash when i clicked on anything. I have since disabled that option and switched to 2.2.0 to try and fix it as suggested in another thread but now it shows nothing.

Is there is any relevant info i could give or somthing that i could try to test if it is just the dvd drive? Thanks

DVDs have 10 times more density than CDs. Your problem is likely DVD drive problem.
