VLC 2.2.4 playback issues

Hi,

Has anyone else encountered MP3 playback issues on the new 2.2.4 version ? They sound like minor hiccups, almost a soft crackling. I uninstalled and reinstalled v2.2.3 and those issues were gone so it's version specific.

Had the same issue with mp3 playback with VLC 2.2.4 for Mac. After reinstall of 2.2.3 problem was solved. Have had a similar issue couple of years back as well. Just don't know the version number anymore. Issue was solved after install of previous version.

Having the same problem with 2.2.4, no problems with 2.2.3. I'm in agreement with the descriptions of the noise that the others posted in this thread; it almost sounds like the audio is dropping out for a very short duration many times a second. Doesn't seem to be an issue playing movies (mp4), but always happens when I play a mp3.

Yes! Listen mp3 in 2.2.4 was a disaster. Hope they fix it soon. By the way, how do I go back to 2.2.3? Can anyone point me to download page? Cheers

Back to 2.2.3 solved this buffer/timer/sync/whatever issue for me too.

I have experienced the same MP3 playback issues since a long time (I suppose just after installing the 2.2.4 release). Generally speaking, I did not experience any other issue with different formats, FLAC overall (this works fine in all cases).

There are a few cases where MP3's work fine too, in a random way - I suppose this could be somewhat linked to a specific bitrate or the CBR/VBR format (but honestly I did not dig into the matter). I have tried most audio configurations but was not able to overcome the problem.

Getting back to the 2.2.3 release sorted the matter out once and for all, so thanks everyone in this forum for this great suggestion while waiting for the next upgrade.

ticket 17052 is supposedly fixed in 2.2.5. I wonder if that will ever be released (there seems to be a 3.0.0 in the works). I guess I can't test the nightly builds because my (antique) Mac Mini is running OSX 10.6

I was having exactly the issue described here. Perversely my short-term solution was to play MP3 files via a Windows VM. Once I saw this thread I downgraded to 2.2.1 (the only older one I had laying around) and the issue is gone. I am looking forward to a new release to fix this, but since the last one was from June of 2016 I am reminding myself to be be patient.
[EDIT] - I found that the problem does appear to be fixed in vlc-3.0.0-20170403-0445-git.dmg, but not everyone wants to run nightly builds, so YMMV, depending on whether you are willing to run a nightly build until a full release is done.

Hello, version 2.2.5 is finally available on www.videolan.org now fixing that problem. It will be distributed through the internal updater starting next Monday.
