I have disabled Float32 in VLC.
Still 100% is too loud and causes distortion in some videos.

that's right. i've also noticed this with some files. seems this is caused by a specific module (mixer/resampler/conversion) in vlc.

okay. are you going to fix this?

Furthermore the "normalizer" seems not to work for me. I just tried to play a video with very low sound. So I enabled normalizer, but this didn't make the audio any louder, although I moved the normalize-slider to the maximum. Is that a bug or did I miss something?

@ wakti: It was removed because its implementation isn't complete. We are basically going to re-write some parts of it to minimise the code-duplication in the WxWidgets and Mac OS X interfaces. It is going to return within VLC 0.8.5.
