can't download youtube videos on iOS VLC

I'm unable to download youtube videos when I enter the url into the Network stream option. The video seems like it starts then flashes and closes. Is downloading youtube video's supported or is this unexpected?

No, neither downloading nor playback of YouTube videos is supported on iOS.
