No sound playing danish wtv-files.

Postby Gesta » 26 Sep 2015 03:57

Hi, i have recorded a lot of television broadcasts in Denmark using Windows Media Center. I replay usually via a Win 7 laptop in Windows Media Center, but now that VLC support wtv files i would like to replay on my iMac and mirror it to AppleTv. But there is no sound in VLC. Neither when playing it on the Win 7 laptop through VLC. VLC can see there is a soundtrack. So there must be a missing sound codec to support the danish sound. All other formats play beautiful sound.

Does the same file work on Windows 7 version of VLC. What does the media information window indicate as the audio codec?

VideoLan describe the codec for the sound on a danish recorded wtv file as MPEG AAC Audio. Language is Dansk.

Did you try with VLC on the Apple TV directly? Did you try a 3.0 Nightly Build of VLC for Mac?

I have now tried the 3.0 Nightly Build of VLC, and still no sound or subtitles on wtv-files, when played on an iMac.

Are you able to share one of the videos with the developers?

Absolutely, here is a link to a file sample in my public dropbox folder: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/173 ... 20Bona.wtv
Please tell me when you have uploaded the file.
VLC can detect one sound track, one video track, and two subtitles tracks. Only the video works. No sound, no subtitles, but the video is really good. :-)

VLC does indeed see the audio track and I confirm it is not playing the audio. I did work around the issue by converting it to a MPEG4 file with Handbrake.

Also checked with latest VLC 2.2.3 and VLC 3.0.0 nightly and see same issue.

If you have a shorter video that exhibits the same issue, please could you upload here: http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ , providing an explanation of the issue there.

To convert? If so, try Handbrake on Handbrake.fr . If you meant for Jean-Baptist's comment, then there is nothing to do, since he has taken care of adding your file to the test files they'll use when trying to solve the issue.

Hi. Im aware of Handbrake to convert, but Handbrake do not handle the subtitles in a wtw file. Neither do VLC, even you can see the subtitle tracks, as you can see the sound tracks. But that is another story.

I have found out, that the wtv-files with no sound, is only recording from the Danish Radio Television(DRTV). I have som recordings from another danish television station, and there is sound. So it is about that codecs the DRTV is using. I think it is AAC-LATM, the name is.

I don't have a solution for the subtitles for now.
