Streaming to Amazon Fire TV Stick from PC

How is this supposed to work? I know how to start a network stream on my PC using VLC but can't see how I'm supposed to find the stream on VLC for Fire TV. According to the description for the app I am supposed to be able to do this. How? There are no instructions for the app anywhere in the documentation section of the website that I could find. There is a local network selection in the app but it just says the directory is empty and I don't see anything in the settings to point it to my computer or such.

Although I'm using a full Fire TV instead of a stick, I am extremely angry that -- even after extensive searching -- I still cannot find ANY documentation that explains how to use this EXTREMELY crappy version of VLC to connect to Windows network (SMB) shares (or any other networking infrastructure, for that matter)!

What's the point of even making this available, since it is impossible to use?

I'm in the same boat. Recently upgraded to an nVidia Shield and installed VLC and found that I can't browse my shared network to play anything. I continually get "Directory is empty" messages and I can't even tell where the device is looking. I've moved files all around on my computer in an attempt to find out with no such luck, and I'm unable to specify a path that it feels is worthy.

Same issue here with my SHIELD Android TV. VLC doesn't recognize my local medias.

I'm also having the same issue with my Nvidia Android TV.

Unable to figure out how to open an RTSP feed with VLC.

Works fine on iPhone and iPad.

Also tried Kodi but it doesn't like RTSP streams either "unable to play".
