RFE: Support for Google Cardboard stereo-view headset?

Postby zimon » 13 Apr 2015 13:19

 Would be nice to use VLC to watch movies with Google Cardboard VR headset.
https://www.google.com/get/cardboard/

There is an Android application called "VR Cinema", which does this, but it does not support all those different video formats like VLC does.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... m.vrcinema

Of course also support for 3D-movies would be nice, but also just watch normal 2D-movies with a headset, so the screen is divided horizontally in the middle and both on left and right side is the same moving image.

Then also the magnetic switch in Google Cardboard would be nice to be supported, so for example PAUSE/PLAY toggle with that.

For testing, it does not cost much to get one:
eg. from there http://www.dx.com/s/google+cardboard or from eBay, Amazon and so on.

I just had the same idea and found this forum/topic.
VLC is such a great player, and a side-by-side mode for 2D video should not be that hard to implement :D
With the rising popularity of VR headsets like the Cardboard and Gear VR this feature will get more and more important.
