Audio Blips On MKV Files Using 2.2.1 64-bit

Postby ddn2003 » 22 Jul 2015 17:34

I'm getting random audio blips when I play MKV files on v2.2.1 64-bit. I have tried the suggestions in the "Crackles, pops, hizzes and other audio anomalies" section of the wiki. I'm looking for some more ideas and suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Well since no one wanted to help me (you guys suck!), I played with a couple settings and I think I found the solution.

1. Open the preferences and click All to show all settings.
2. Search A52.
3. Click on Audio ES.
4. Change the Frames per Second to 23.97
5. Restart VLC

This seems to remove the audio blips.

I'm not having this problem. I did have short 1/4 second mutes during playback on the 32 bit version. Have you reset all the settings to default to start? That helped me and I hate doing that normally.

I'm normally not here but someone should have helped without you having to plea. Small forum views in general here but mods need to at least chime in with a link or an i don't know...

I'll give it a shot. It's going to suck having to re-setup VLC, as I've made a ton of changes to the shortcuts.

I've never had to, but installing the K-Lite Codec Pack looks to have solved the problem. I'm still doing some testing, but it looks to have fixed the problem.

This is weird to hear as VLC cannot make use of external codec packs. However, great to hear, that this is working for you now :)

When I installed the Mega pack, it said it was uninstalling a bunch of already installed codecs that I never installed. I could only think that VLC had installed them. Nonetheless, my testing is going well so far.

Ok, so I'm still getting the blips. This is frustrating. The weird this is, if I stop the file and re-start the file the blips are gone. They only appear on the first pass. I can play 5 minutes of a video, stop it and re-start it and there are no audio blips anymore, even on the parts I never played.

Still having the audio blips. Having done more investigation, it seems to be when playing MKVs (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC) with A52 Audio (aka AC3) audio codec.

Any ideas?

Without knowing the clear circumstances when this problem happens, I doubt anybody can help you.

(I have seen a different but similiar issue, and it was caused by my crappy GPU drivers... nothing I could do about.)

It's only when playing MKVs (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC) with A52 Audio (aka AC3) audio codec. If it's another audio codec, there are no blips.

You wrote that much already and it is helpless.

Thousands, if not millions, of VLC users have no problems playing A/52 in Matroska.

Then something in VLC changed between 2.1 and 2.2, because I didn't get this in 2.1.
