VLC Audio Playback starts 3 seconds late

Listening to a playlist of tracks (audio only), when one track finishes, each next track starts abruptly, about 3 seconds late. There's nothing wrong with the tracks themselves. If one goes back and returns the slider manually to the beginning, it plays correctly.
Any way to adjust those transitions?
