DVD would not play with VLC 2.2.0-rc2

Good morning everyone,

Maybe someone got an idea concerning the playback of NCIS Season 11 Region 1 DVDs:

Inserting the DVD and starting VLC is not an issue. DVD is recognized. but would not play. Not on Windows7 and not on Debian8 Linux.

Please find the dump below (I am using a patched MBuntu Skin but that should not be an issue):

I am under the impression that LIBDVDCSS would not read the DVD correctly. It has noting to do with the region setting as other Region 1 DVDs play flawless.

Any clues, ideas, hints?

Hi all,

Just found out, that Matshita DVD Playsers with RPC II firmware do not allow access to DVDs with another Region Code that set firmware wise.
Once set the DVD drive plays matching Region Code DVDs only.
At the RPC1 forum a matching RPC1 firmware may or may not be found.
Other DVD devices may be set to Region Code 0 (all areas) using the REGIONSET command line tool in case a Region Code 0 DVD is in the player.
This doues NOT work with Matshita DVD drives unless a RPC1 firmware is installed.
Not all Matshita are dumpable.
