How to display the media library as a flat, folderless list?

How to display the media library as a flat, folderless list?

Postby ArkBlitz » 27 Jul 2013 22:37

Currently, VLC's media library is of little use for me, because it basically displays the folder structure instead of a list of files. Usually that would be actually useful, but it causes several issues when using VLC as a jukebox. Music shuffling gets jammed upon hitting a folder instead of a file, and either stops being randomly shuffled (loading only files inside already opened folders) or else totally halts. Sorting by artist/album/etcetera lists only one subfolder at a time, and doesn't list files in any other subfolders unless one explicitly double-clicks to open them. Is there a way to at least configure "My computer" to display a flat recursive list of all files, not sorted by folder?

Not really a complete fix, but a work-around...

Instead of adding the folder directly to the media library, search in Windows for all *.mp3 files (and *.m4a etc.) within the folder you want to add. Select them all in explorer and drag them into the media library.
