Complete beginner - play CD

I am a complete beginner and as a first test I try to play an audio CD.

Procedure to play CD using VLC

Open VLC
Insert CD
Media -> Open Disc
Close Power DVD
In 'Open Media' window select Disc, Audio CD, ‘E:\- Audio CD’, track 0, Play.

Problem: How do I prevent Power DVD opening?
Please help.

Power DVD plays your CDs automatically. Change some setting in your OS.

Thank you so much. The problem is now resolved. I started with Control Panel and worked my way to the solution step by step.

But here answers are too cryptic. I need detailed step by step procedures.
