Convert HD Homerun UDP stream Troubleshooting

Postby yourbuddypal » 01 Jun 2015 17:13

Hello. I've been trying to Convert a live stream from an HD Homerun to an H.264 MP4. The input stream is from a UDP source (udp:\\127.0.0.1:5000). When I use the VLC GUI, the VLC title says "Streaming", but when I look at the file in Windows Explorer, it shows 0 bytes. In VLC, when I hit stop or close the program, the file always goes to 199 bytes. I assume this is just a file header, and there is no actual content. Am I doing something wrong?

When viewing the stream in VLC live, using the Record button does work. However, since that button saves uncompressed video, the file size is huge. I want to transcode the video to a reasonable size. I have not tried to perform the conversion using the command line. Please advise. Thanks!

What format are your large files? Are they supported by handbrake? As an end user handbrake has a more friendly user interface.
