Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error when "playing all" with VLC Media Player

Postby Decatonkeil » 24 Apr 2015 18:40

When I try to "play all" the music, video, etc. archives in a folder using VLC media player (it doesn't happen if I change it to open with Windows Media Player) I get this problem and I can't reproduce the archives as usual, as a playlist. I can, though, play the archives one by one individually.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

These are the details of the problem I get:

I have the same problem until I actualized my VLC version for the new one. Its a pity. And is only that problem, you cant use the button ''Playing all'' or ''Playing selection'' in the windows carpet when you have VLC predeterminated for MP3 or anothers extensions. The song starts but you cant go to the program and when you close the message of error the song brutally stops.

I'm getting this error also with ''Play with VLC...'' context menus. Still I can open&play 2 or more items with Media>Open Multiple Files... option within VLC. You're right, no problems one by one. Just updated from 2.2.0 to 2.2.1. I'm using x64 version and Windows 7 HP 64bit. Optional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-I-G0lHs6hU

I have the same bug with VLC 2.2.1 (built on Apr 16 2015).
Please fix it ASAP.

Same problem , occurred only after recent upgrade. Also only happens when attempting to "play " multiple files using vlc button integrated with windows explorer , I can still drag and drop several files with no errors. Windows 7 , Dell laptop.

i had the same problem and i solved it like this:

- first reset VLC preferences restart vlc

- got to EXTRA then PREFERENCES

-leave everything standard but ''check'' these
*auto start -
*only one instance of vlc at the time -
*only 0ne instance of vlc player if played from exploder-
*add items to playlist if only one instance of vlc is allowed

-save

-close vlc

-now try to play all

these *settings can be diffrent written as shown above , this becauce i have a dutch version ,so i did my best to translate it to english.

hope it works for u . for me it worked.

Hi $ence,

Thanks for the solution, it works !
I revert my settings after your commands and it works also.

After multiple checks, I found that we have to check "Enqueue items into playlist in one instance mode" (Playlist and instances section)
For this, we need to check "Allow only one instance" to enable this checkbox. After you check it, you can unchecked "Allow only one instance".
To sum up, the solution to not have this message popup (opened for X times of X files opened) is to check "Enqueue items into playlist in one instance mode".

It seems that is a bug and hope it will be fixed for the next release.
Bye !

This doesn't solve the actual problem does it? It's just avoiding VLC from tripping in the same old bugs when multiple instances are launched..

You are right, this is just a configuration to avoid the bug, but if you keep your old config, the bug will appear

I can´t reproduce the problem. Does the problem still occur with VLC 3.0 builds as of now (or May 26 nightlies)?

Hi Rémi Denis-Courmont,

I just test with the "vlc-3.0.0-git-20150526-0002-win32.exe" and the problem seems to not appear.

No, it's fine in 3.0.0. Only 2.2.0 is broken.
