streaming audio problems

I attempted to open an audio stream with VLC from Firefox, but I just wind up at a prompt to "Open network stream" as opposed to having the stream play. What did I miss? If you need an example stream, try http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/ ... LAMAAC.pls, which is why I am coming from Firefox as opposed to keying all that in.

On the same topic, I am able to open the stream with both "Music" and "Streaming Player", but as soon as I leave the app the stream stops playing! Will VLC have the same problem when I can get it to open the stream passed to it from Firefox?

I have been using VLC on my linux system for several years and usually have it playing an internet radio stream while I am working. I was hoping to be able to do the same on my android phone while I am out of the office. That would require the app to continue playing the stream even when I was using another app, although it would obviously need to mute the stream while a call was in progress.

It should work in the latest versions.
