Can't move time slider when playing 3gp files

Postby pilsnernisse » 09 Apr 2015 17:03

Hi,
My phone records sound in 3gp-format. When i try to play these files on my computer using VLC (V 2.2.0), all goes well until i decide to move the time slider (in lack of a better word). When i do so, the bar continues to fill (slowly), but the number that indicates elapsed time stops, as well as the actual playback of the sound. The play/pause logo still displays a pause symbol (meaning that the file is still playing).
If i don't move the slider, but instead just pause and play with the spacebar, the playback usually starts and stops without any delay at all. Although, the slider and time counter are sometimes hopelessly lagging behind.

Any ideas?

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=57724&p=193335#p193335
50 MB max should be enough.

Hi, thanks!
I recorded a log while playing the file. After i while i tried to move the slider. However, i didn't wait for the whole (non-happening) playback to finish. Instead i tried to push stop after a little while. Please tell me if the log doesn't suffice.

Link to log: http://pastebin.com/9g6tU09E

I have uploaded the file to http://streams.videolan.org/upload/
File name: 2015_02_16_11_46_hidden_In

Thanks again.

Hi you guys,
Ok, so apparently i don't understand a lot about the technical stuff. It would be awesome, though, if someone could help me translate what is going on with the possible bug that happened to me (and that currently keeps me from using sound files recorded on my phone).

So, i created a bug report, https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/14352#
It has now been marked as "fixed", with the following explanation:

"AMR is declared as V0, uncompressed chunk.
Reading a max of 1024 samples in that case is too much."

O....kay. I have absolutely NO idea what that means.
So i guess i should refrain from reading so many samples in the future..? Or maybe i should stop declaring AMR as V0? I hereby declare the AMR the True King of Westeros instead! Nope, didn't work. I still can't move the time slider without fracking up the playback.

So... what should i do?

thx

You should try VLC 3.0.0 from Nightly Build of VLC

I have a similar problem and version 3.0 seems to fix it.
