And I thank you too. I had been searching for this in the settings list, when I should have just searched here in the forum! Thank you very much!There's an "allow only one instance" option that you can set.
Open VLC, goto Settings->Preferences.
Click the Advanced Options tickbox.
Goto Advanced, Other.
Tick "Allow only one running instance"
Click Save and close VLC.
It'll now work the way you want.
