Viewing on networked telly

Postby DuncanC » 22 Feb 2015 15:13

Hi. I've gone a bit cross-eyed searching for info on this so apologies if this has been covered (or if this is the wrong forum).

I'm trying to watch videos on my (W7) PC on my networked television. I can do this using Samsung Smart View but it won't read subtitle files, but at least I know it's possible to do this over the network without having to use a tv card or run the tv as a second monitor.

How do you do this in VLC?

Thanks for any pointers,
Duncan

What are the sources of the videos you are trying to watch?

Thanks for answering. They're just files on the PC but I'm also hoping I can do it with DVDs.

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure you can do that with VLC without running your TV as a second monitor.

I'm beginning to think you're right. The only solutions I've come across involve a tv-on-a-stick device (without giving anyone free advertising). I suppose Samsung must be accessing the guts of the tv directly. I'll get a cable, it'll be cheaper anyway...

Thanks for your help :)
