RTP streaming (with live555) reconnect

Postby CheBuzz » 16 Feb 2015 23:15

I am trying to stream video from an IP camera to VLC using H.264 over RTP. Everything works fine as long as the IP camera is constantly on the network. If the IP camera is unreachable for <10 seconds, the stream will restart once connection is reestablished. However, if the IP camera is down for >10 seconds, VLC closes the stream and throws:

live555 warning: no data received in 10s, eof?

The stream will not start again until manually restarted. So... is it possible to either increase the live555 timeout within VLC, or have VLC automatically retry to connect (preferably retry indefinitely)?

A bit of a bump and an update on this...

I attempted to solve this using a playlist that had a single item and set it to loop. Creating a playlist with the loop option including an RTSP/RTP stream that fails as its last item will cause the playlist to not repeat. Adding anything to the end that does successfully play will cause the playlist to loop. It's a very ugly and roundabout way to acheive the goal of reconnecting after failure, but it does work.

I still have not found any way to tell VLC and/or live555 to reconnect after stream closure. Can anybody help out here?
