Global hotkey for 'Add to Playlist'

I would like to have the option for setting a global hotkey for 'Add to Playlist' for the currently playing file. My motivation for this is that I would like to play my media library on shuffle and build up a playlist as I listen. Right now if I would like to do this, I would have to go into VLC and manually drap-drop the file into the playlist or use the context menu whenever a file comes up that I'd like to add. If I had the global hotkey, I could put and keep VLC in the background.
