Is there a setting in a config file that will change my default playback to 16x9 when opening video files? I can't find any options to change default settings

The question does not make sense but you are probably looking for "aspect-ratio" ?

Yes the aspect ratio. Is there a setting to change the default ratio to 16:9 instead of the default 4:3? I'm using a 47" wide screen TV as a monitor and don't want to have to keep change the aspect ratio of the movies when opening them. Most of my files open in 4:3 and I want 16:9 as default but haven't figured out how to change the default setting.
