Best version for my old galaxy tab 7?

Postby McMick » 06 Jan 2015 13:07

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Verizon model (sch-i800). It has a 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU and PowerVR SGX540 graphics (don't know the speed). I have a CM7 OS (gingerbread 2.3.7 I think) flashed on it. I don't know if a version of VLC exists that can do hardware decoding on it, but the tablet supposedly supports H.263, H.264, MPEG4, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, and Divx. However I don't think hardware acceleration has ever worked for me. That said, software decoding seemed to work fine in early builds of VLC (I currently have 0.0.10 installed). But the latest versions (0.9.x) just give me a smeared screen of garbage for 720p video. Is there some simple way to determine the newest version that will work well with my tablet without going through build-by-build? I'm hoping someone here is familiar enough with the source code or the build changes to tell me. Also is there a custom build somewhere that can use hardware decoding on my model of tablet? Thanks for any insights.

Try the nightly builds 1.1.0, seriously.

Thanks for the advice. This build works really well! If I force hardware decoding all I get is a black screen, but if I set it back to automatic it works fine (I assume this means it's using software decoding). It's nice to have all the new features like the EQ and etc. so thanks again for the help! VLC FOREVER!!!

You cannot get full acceleration on 2.3.x
