[SOLVED] Detach/separate playback controls

Postby Pistos » 02 Jan 2015 01:41

Hi. I have VLC version 2.0.5 running under Gentoo Linux (KDE).

I have a two-screen setup on a laptop, where the main screen is on the laptop's screen, and a secondary screen is connected to the laptop via HDMI. I want to keep the Playlist, etc. on the laptop screen, and keep the video playback fullscreened on the HDMI screen. I am able to do this, but then the playback controls are on the HDMI screen. (I hide the controls via the options, as I don't want them to be shown on the HDMI screen.)

Is there a way to have detached playback controls, INCLUDING the playback position slider (so I can see how much time is left in the currently playing file)? As a workaround for now, I am clicking on the fullscreen HDMI video output window, and then using keyboard shortcuts to start, stop, and move to next file, etc. This is mostly okay, but I have zero visibility into the current playback position, time left, etc.

Is this supported in VLC?

[SOLVED] Detach/separate playback controls

I figured this out on my own.

Bringing up the Adjustments and Effects window (Ctrl-E), under the Video Effects tab, Advanced tab, I used the Clones feature to create 1 clone of the video output.

Then I used KDE's window customizations on the video playback window (Alt-F3). More Actions | Special Window Settings. Under the Size & Position tab, set the Desktop, Screen and Fullscreen settings as desired.

Then whenever video playback occurs, it remembers to put the video playback on the other screen, fullscreened.
