Debian repo for libdvdcss is not available

Postby shmerl » 19 Dec 2014 04:17

Sorry for asking here, there is no special subforum for it.

Is something wrong with libdvdcss Debian repo? According to this page https://www.videolan.org/developers/libdvdcss.html it's supposed to be http://download.videolan.org/pub/debian/stable/
I was using http://download.videolan.org/pub/debian/testing/ until now and it was working fine, but recently it became unavailable. Is it temporary? I hope it's not caused by some nasty DRM proponents threats.

Not sure as to why it's unavailable, but you can get round the problem by using the ftp server as a source for the moment. Hopefully the Debian repo will be corrected soon.

See this post for more details:

Thanks for the workaround, the ftp works indeed! I hope this will be fixed.

For those wishing to run install-css.sh, you can edit it to use the ftp server by amending this line:

sitert=http://download.videolan.org/
to
sitert=ftp://ftp.videolan.org/

However I am interested to see where this goes and what the reason for the change is.

Aha! Looks like a hardware failure.

A hard drive has failed on their server - I wonder if the webserver had problems for a while and the changes propogated to the mirrors. No doubt the admins are far to busy trying to fix the problem to give an update on here, but I expect they will be along sometime to fill in the gaps.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully it won't take long to recover.
