Bugs in VLC 0.8.4-beta1 on Gentoo Linux

Now I'm not sure if its 100% my fault or not, I've managed to compile VLC 0.8.4-beta1 on gentoo linux, however when I try to set up a VOD file it I get an error.

*** glibc detected *** corrupted double-linked list: 0x08493fc0 ***

This happens when I'm trying to set up a VOD file to transcode, now this works fine under VLC 0.8.2 but any version of VLC 0.8.4, I've also tried with the most recent snapshots and it crashes with this error.
Any thoughts to what this might be?

Could you compile with --enable-debug and preovide a gdb backtrace, please
