VLMa with TVheadend

Postby countzorg » 20 Nov 2014 12:50

First of all, thank you for all your wonderful developments in the world of AV. VLC is complete king as far as most people are concerned. VLMa looks to be good too!
I have had a play with it and want to basically use it with TVheadend. I have had a look around and done some reading. Am I wrong in thinking that VLMa only works with VLC serving it (when using external servers to provide its feed)?

My scenario is this: I have a number of MOI+ boxes with TVheadend built in to them (Linux) They are streaming fine straight from the box to VLC or the VLC web plugin (although with the web plugin I understand I am on is the old version)
I tried to set up VLMa to effectively act as a proxy (so the server with VLMa on is taking the load and providing - ideally - unicast repeats of the MOI streaming box outputs)
I put in a number of stream links (they do work) into VLMa and give them IDs of France2, ZDF etc.
I assumed then pointing the server (with VLMa on) with the server address and id (say France2) would start a stream (all being tested via VLC).
I am guessing VLMa has to talk to the server (telnet?) and TVheadend just streams unicast when required?
I'd just like to use VLMa as a proxy streamer, as I want to take the strain off the MOI+ (TVheadend) boxes and also mask the IP source.
Sorry if I am seeming a little stupid here. I am doing so many things at the moment that I am not getting true geek time to play.

Any pointers, even rough, would be gratefully received. The program does look like it is capable but I am sure I am approaching it in the wrong way.
