VLC snapshot feature stopped working after updating to 14.10

Postby TheToast » 14 Nov 2014 19:04

Neither the shortcut nor the menu-item for snapshot do anything. The OSD just flickers for a few miliseconds, (to not obstruct the screen, i guess), but then, nothing happens.

I already tried to purge all vlc-related packets and delete cache and config files and just don't know how to fix that.

I just started to expereince this as well. Running VLC from a terminal, I get this output when trying to take a snapshot:

Code: Select all

[00007feb6c67e018] vdpau_chroma filter error: corrupt VDPAU video surface 0x7feb0c00c5d0 [00007feb34260ff8] core video output error: Failed to convert image for snapshot
Mr. Google doesn't have much to say about this beyond (to me) obscure vdpau development threads.

I'm hoping this is more meaningful to someone, as this is a feature I would surely like to have back!

Thanks!

I got it working, here's what I did:

I added the Xorg-edgers PPA like so:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo apt-get update
And then upgraded all the new packages:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get upgrade
It worked immediately. When you go to do this, though, make sure you follow the cautions on this page:
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/xorg-edgers

Hopefully this helps!

Well, drat, the problem's back.

I'm on 2.2.0-rc1

If anyone has any other suggestions, I am all ears!
