Converter quits during conversion

Forgive me if this has been addressed. I am trying to convert a fairly large .MOV file into a different format, but VLC keeps creating incomplete renders. It's a 90-minute feature, but VLC (almost) always just stops rendering at about 1:07:00 and ends with an incomplete movie. I've tried rendering several different kinds of movies (.mpgs, .avis,) but cannot get the VLC to render a complete conversion. I'm running it on a Windows 7.0 Alienware laptop.
