VLC 2.1.5 Crashes on Termination

Postby DERoss » 18 Aug 2014 06:29

Windows 7 (x64)
VideoLAN 2.1.5 (x64)

VLC seems to work okay. When I go to terminate it after it has been playing a streaming audio broadcast, however, it crashes.

The Windows error popup says:
VLC media player 2.1.5 has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.

Just below that, there are buttons for two options:
Check online for a solution and close the program
Close the program.

The "Problem signature" in that error popup is as follows:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: vlc.exe
Application Version: 2.1.5.0
Application Timestamp: 00000000

The stream to which I was listening was at http://kuscstream.org/mp3/kusc128.m3u. I can reproduce this problem at will. I can get the crash whether I terminate VLC by selecting the X in the upper-right corner or by selecting [Media > Quit] on the VLC menu bar.

I'm having the exact same issue, also with 64bit version of 2.1.5. I have uninstalled and re-installed, and re-booted, but the problem persists. Each and every time I close the program it generates this "stopped working" message.

It's not a serious issue as I am able to play the video files, but it's annoying.

I have had this problem as well, I just built a new pc and thought it might be driver issues, However I did find a fix, by installing the previous version of VLC 64bit it no longer crashes! I will leave a link below and I hope this helps you guys and gals!

That isn't a fix, that is a work-around.

Further to my earlier comment, I am seeing that this crash occurs consistently with playback of MKV files but never with AVI files.

not here; all videos - no matter if AVI or not; VLC causing a crash - at least for Windows (7 - 64).
