VLC doesn't play DVDs with incorr.coded Volume-Description

Postby burzel » 21 Aug 2014 22:39

I think this issue is concerning all platforms:

VLC doesn't play DVDs if their volume-description doesn't comply to the ISO-standard

E.G.: If the volume of a disc is 'women´s' instead of 'women_s' VLC doesn't play the disc.

Moreover the computer crashes completely an one has to do a reboot.

Is there any workaround to this? Can one set VLC to not read the volume

This issue is ocurring in versions 2.1.3 to 2.1.5

VLC cannot crash the computer. It does not normally run with privileges. If this happens, you have an OS, driver or hardware problem.

Negative. Using the designated DVD wit VLC, the computer freezes completely. It then doesn't accept any keyboard-imputs any more . There are no hardware or driver problems.

Frankly I'm a little bit surprised getting such a non-helping, superfical answer from a developer. I always thought, a developer knows his software and could give more hints or analyze the problem than just saying "you have a hardware-problem".

I simply cannot have a problem since the "error" ist reproduceable on differnt computers with the same versions of VLC given above and the disc plays perfectly with other software-players also an various PC's

I tought I gave the key-hint with the disc-name not meeting ISO-Standard.....
